Coalition Sweeps National Assembly Elections with 18 Seats, UML Secures One in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Jan 25: In a decisive victory, the ruling coalition emerged triumphant in the recently concluded National Assembly elections, securing a dominant 18 out of 19 seats. The sole remaining seat was claimed by the Unified Marxist-Leninist (UML) party.

The election results showcased a diverse array of winners from various provinces and clusters across the nation. In the Koshi province, Krishna Prasad Sitaula of the Congress party clinched victory in the general cluster, while Rukmini Koirala of UML emerged victorious in the women’s cluster. Similarly, Pooja Chaudhary of Jaspa triumphed in the Madhes province’s women’s cluster, and Anand Dhungana of Congress secured a win in other clusters.

The Congress party continued its success with Jitjung Basnet and Bishnu Devi Pudasaini winning in the general and women’s clusters, respectively. Srikrishna Prasad Adhikari of the Maoist Center triumphed in the disabled cluster, and Ghanshyam Rizal of CPN Samajwadi secured victory for the Dalit community.

Gandaki province witnessed Manrupa Sharma of Maoist Center winning in the women’s cluster, Kiran Babu Shrestha of Congress prevailing in other clusters, and Padam Bahadur Periyar of Congress securing victory in the disability cluster.

Moving to Lumbini province, Bishnu Kumari Sapkota of Congress claimed success in the women’s cluster, while Jhakkuprasad Subedi of Maoist Center emerged victorious in other clusters.

In Karnali Province, Savitri Malla of CPN United Samajwadi Party emerged victorious in the women’s cluster, Bishnu Vick of Maoist Party secured the win for Dalits, and Krishna Bahadur Rokaya of Nepali Congress triumphed in other clusters. The Far West Province saw Renu Chand of the Maoist Center and Baldev Bohra of Congress emerging as winners in the women’s cluster.

The elections were held in compliance with the law, 35 days before the conclusion of the term of the National Assembly members elected in February 2074. With the new members elected for a six-year term, the National Assembly is set to embark on its next phase of legislative responsibilities.
