Kathmandu, Apr 4: The Punjab government of Pakistan has informed the Lahore High Court about the allocation of seven cells, instead of one, for the security of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Adiala Jail.

This development came to light during a hearing of a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Afzal Azim Pahat, citing alleged threats to Imran Khan’s life while in Rawalpindi’s high-security Adiala Jail.

Following the hearing, a court official stated that Punjab Advocate General Khalid Ishaq informed the court about the arrangement of six additional cells for Imran Khan, in addition to his own cell, to ensure comprehensive security.

The security measures include one security guard for every ten prisoners in Adiala Jail, whereas 14 security guards are deployed solely for Imran Khan’s security. The monthly security expenses for Khan in prison amount to 1.2 million Pakistani rupees, with additional CCTV cameras installed for monitoring.

Furthermore, specific arrangements have been made for Khan’s daily meals, which are prepared separately in a dedicated kitchen to maintain security protocols.

The petitioner emphasized the perceived threats to Imran Khan’s life in jail and requested full protection for him. The court has adjourned the hearing until April 16, with Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan overseeing the proceedings.

Imran Khan has been detained since August last year in various legal cases, and these security measures aim to ensure his safety during his time in Adiala Jail.
