Terrorist Attack in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Claims 50 Lives
Kathmandu, Nov 23: A terrorist attack in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan has left 50 people dead and dozens injured, including a police officer and a woman. The incident occurred in Lower Kurram when gunmen fired indiscriminately at a passenger van traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar.
According to reports from AFP, the attack took place near Ochut Kali and Manduri. Local authorities confirmed the deaths, with 14 victims yet to be identified due to the absence of identity documents. Efforts are ongoing to contact the families of the deceased.
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack, calling it a cowardly and inhumane act. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) echoed the sentiment in a post on X, urging justice for the victims and timely medical assistance for the injured.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry described the incident as a major tragedy, noting that the death toll could rise. Among the casualties were a woman and a child.
Local resident Ziyarat Hussain revealed that two passenger vehicles were targeted in the attack, one traveling to Parachinar and the other heading to Peshawar.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region.
