Kathmandu, March 13: The festival of colors, Holi, also known as Fagu Purnima, is being celebrated with great enthusiasm in the hilly districts of Nepal today.

Various programs have been organized across the country, including in Kathmandu, to mark this festival that promotes unity and harmony. In recent years, the tradition of playing Holi has become more civilized, focusing on joy and celebration.

The government has declared a public holiday for the occasion. However, Holi will be celebrated in the Tarai region tomorrow.

Holi, deeply rooted in Hindu culture, is associated with Lord Vishnu’s devotee Prahlada from the Treta Yuga. According to tradition, Holika Dahan is performed the night before, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. The following day, people play with colors and Avir, embracing joy and unity.

The festival also marks the arrival of spring and is celebrated by people of all ages, who sing, dance, and forgive past grievances, fostering love and harmony.
