Thai Businessmen Show Interest in Investing in Nepal’s Tourism and Construction Sectors

Bangkok, April 3: Thai businessmen have expressed keen interest in investing in Nepal’s tourism, hotel, and construction industries following discussions with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. During the talks, Thai entrepreneurs explored various investment opportunities and the potential for cooperation in Nepal.
The businessmen sought clarity on issues such as legal processes for investment, ease of repatriating profits, and foreign exchange regulations. They also inquired about the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Prime Minister Oli’s Economic and Development Advisor, Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, highlighted that Nepal is prepared to collaborate on investment opportunities, not only through cooperation but also in an emotional sense. Thai investors showed particular interest in sectors like construction, hotels, food processing, and tourism.
Chandra Prasad Dhakal, Chairman of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), emphasized that the discussion focused on identifying the right sectors for investment in Nepal. He mentioned that several traditional investment laws had been amended to ease the process for foreign investors.
Additionally, discussions touched upon the hydropower generation agreement with India, highlighting the potential of Nepal’s tourism sector as a key area for growth and investment.
