Kathmandu, May 1: In the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the United States has begun diplomatic efforts to prevent further conflict.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held separate discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. According to US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce, Rubio expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed America’s support to India in the global fight against terrorism. He also urged both countries to pursue dialogue to reduce tensions and promote peace in the region.

Meanwhile, a statement from the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office said Shahbaz Sharif presented Pakistan’s stance to Rubio. Sharif accused India of engaging in provocations that could divert attention from Pakistan’s anti-terrorism efforts. He also rejected India’s accusations of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack and called for an impartial investigation.

Sharif cautioned the US against making provocative statements, warning that such remarks could inflame the situation further.
