United States COVID assistance to Nepal crosses USD 50 million

Kathmandu, May 14. The US Embassy on Thursday reported that the United States has already supported Nepal’s COVID management with a total fund of 50.9 million dollars.

According to the latest factsheet, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has so far reached over 55 percent of the population across Nepal with 100 ventilators, 10,000 personal protective equipment (PPE), and life-saving antiretroviral drugs.

The Department Of Defense (DoD) has also funded $5.8 Million for the purchase of medical supplies including COVID testing kits, breathing devices, and handwashing stations for health clinics and isolation camps. 

On Thursday, DoD announced an additional $2.75 million in emergency funding that will provide oxygen cylinders and liquid oxygen storage tanks to the government of Nepal. 

Within the last few weeks, DoD has provided urgently needed PPE, medical supplies, high-flow oxygen therapy devices to the COVID Crisis Management Center and Ministry of Health and Population.

The United States is the largest donor to COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access(COVAX) and has committed $2 billion to the program, with another $2 billion to come. Nepal was among the first in Asia to receive COVAX donations.
