Students in Bihar stage “violent protest” over irregularities in Railway examinations
Kathmandu, January 26. Hundreds of students who recently took the railway recruitment exam in the Indian state of Bihar, held a violent protest on Wednesday, citing irregularities in the examination procedure.
Media reports suggest that the decision made by the Railways to hold the Railway Recruitment Board’s Non-Technical Popular Categories (RRB-NTPC) exam in two stages was strongly opposed by the students.
A student protestor told reporters that the second stage is unfair for the students who cleared the first stage exam. “We demand the railway ministry to immediately publish the pending results, also, more importantly, cancel the level two exams,” the student noted.
Moreover, the demonstrators also accused the ministry of taking decisions at the last moment. Students further explained, “Notices published by the ministry throughout 2019 never talked about the two stage exam process.”
Urging the students to stop themselves from damaging the state’s property, Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the demands of the students will be heard. Vaishnav also confirmed that the authority has suspended the exams and also formed a high level committee to hold conversations with the students.
Meanwhile, the photos and videos featuring Wednesday’s violence at Gaya of Bihar have created waves on the internet. The videos featured enraged protestors who set the train on fire and clashed with the special forces.
