Bird Flu confirmed in Morang; Livestock Department orders destruction of fowls, related goods
Kathmandu, February 1. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development on Saturday confirmed the presence of Avian flu at two locations in Morang of Province one.
The Department of Livestock Services announced that on January 30, the samples were brought from suspected local farms to the Tripureshwor based Central Veterinary Laboratory. The experts at the laboratory conducted rounds of PCR tests.
After the tests, the lab confirmed H5N1 influenza virus in samples collected from Gramthan-1 and Budhiganga-5 munmicipalities.
The department has instructed concerned bodies to destroy domestic fowls and other goods capable of transmitting the virus. In order to minimize the risk of the transmission, the department also imposed a complete ban on the supply of related items.
The department also urged the farmers to follow safety measures and not to allow domestic animals to come in contact with wild animals.
