Kathmandu, April 7. The US Senate has confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court justice on Thursday.
Jackson is the first African-American woman to hold the position. She was nominated by President Biden in February.
She has sat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which is often mentioned as the nation’s second most powerful court. She will be succeeding Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. Breyer will be retiring this summer.
Biden confirmed the decision with a selfie with Jackson. He wrote on Twitter, “Judge Jackson’s confirmation was a historic moment for our nation.”
The White House is celebrating the decision on Friday.
