CCTV cameras made compulsory at vote counting locations

Kathmandu, April 29: The Election Commission has supervised all 753 local levels to mandatorily operate CCTV cameras at the vote counting locations.

A circular through the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has been sent at all local levels for installation of CCTV cameras.

For the upcoming May 13 elections, a total of 10,756 polling stations and 21,955 voting booths have been set up.

Commission’s spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel said if any disputes arise regarding vote count, then CCTV camera’s footage could be utilized as they will serve as electronic archives. Moreover, CCTV cameras in vote counting locations will be ensure transparency in the counting process.

Poudel further added that some local level have questioned if it is mandatory to install CCTV cameras, which he said raised questions on credibility of counting at the local level.

Voters list sent to election officers

The voter’s list having photos have been sent to chief election officers and election officers, according to the election commission.

According to the commission, there are a total of 17,733,723 voters enlisted in the voter list. The voters can visit the commission website and check for their name in the voter list.
