New Covid Wave looming in Nepal; 1005 people under home isolation

Kathmandu, July 13. Nepal has been seeing a sharp increase in the number of daily positive cases of COVID-19 infection.
Wednesday alone, 206 people were diagnosed with a COVID-19 infection caused by several variants:
- 100 new cases were found in Kathmandu
- 18 were found in Lalitpur
- 7 were found in Bhaktapur
- 81 were found outside Kathmandu valley
According to the data published by the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,005 people are currently infected and are in home isolation.
There were no COVID deaths reported in the last 24 hours. At least 11,900 people have died due to complications caused by the deadly viral infection.
Government urges people to follow health protocols
Earlier this month, Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population warned the country of an upward trend in coronavirus spread.
Ministry’s Joint Secretary Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari said, “Nepal did not find the infection rate rising at the same rate as India. But infection is rampant in the country.”
Director of the Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control Division, Dr Chuman Lal Das said that the people entering Nepal from India are reported to have contracted the infection in most cases. He urged to people to follow health protocols.
Meanwhile, the National Public Health Laboratory has been working on identifying the gene sequence of the strain of virus detected in recent days.
