Indian Army Chief Pande receives honorary rank from President Bhandari
Kathmandu, September 5. President Bidya Devi Bhandari today awarded the Honorary Rank of General of the Nepali Army to the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army General Manoj Pande at a special function at Rastrapati Bhavan.
According to the Nepal Army, General Pande was presented with a sword, insignia and a certificate of conferment order by the President.
Further, among those who graced the event were Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi, Chief of the Army Staff General Prabhu Ram Sharma, former Chiefs of Army Staff of Nepali Army, Secretaries of Office of President, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava among others.
The unique tradition of honoring army chiefs between Nepal and India started in 1951. Moreover, 21 army chiefs from India and 17 army chief from Nepal have received the honor.
Additionally, General Pande had a meeting with his counterpart General Prabhu Ram Sharma, where they discussed matters of mutual interest and strengthening relations between armies of both countries.
General Pande is on a five day visit to Nepal on invitation of Chief of the Nepali Army Staff Sharma.
