‘It’s time to crack down on India’: China
Kathmandu.
The official English tabloid under China’s People’s Daily, the Global Times has taken an aggressive stance amidst the ongoing disputes between India and China. The news report has scathingly claimed that India was a coward for threatening China, warning that the time may have come to teach New Delhi a lesson.
Citing The Hindu, an Indian daily, the Global Times has further mentioned that a senior Indian government official has stated that the Indian Military could fire if the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) approaches near the borders. This was three days after the two countries agreed to ease the tensions in the military commander-level talks held on Monday. “India has illegally occupied some high mountains and thus created the illusion that by making threats, the PLA will not come close”, the Global Times notes in cautionary tones. It goes on to argue that “If China does not fight back, it is likely that conflicts will emerge from time to time on the China-India border, which may even become a new normal.”
The editorial claimed that China has always seen its developing neighbor as a brother and has never wanted to wage a war against India. But, India in turn has feared China becoming an influential power in Asia. The newspaper has maintained that instead of showing responsibility towards resolving the border dispute, India’s sole intention has been to reiterate the issue to suit its own purposes. For this reason, it has concluded, that China needed to toughen up its attitude towards India.
