Kathmandu. Different private hospitals operating in the valley have announced that they will not abide by the price set by the government for coronavirus PCR testing. They have set the price at NRs 3,899 and will continue with the same price until and unless the health ministry comes out with some fixed policies for the labs.

In a joint press statement released by eight private labs and hospitals, they have decided against conducting tests in the price allocated by the government. The private labs and hospitals include: Star Hospital, HAMS Hospital, B&B Hospital, Nepal Mediciti Hospital, Decode Genomics and Research Center, Saurya Health Care, Central Diagnostic Laboratory and Intrepid Diagnostic Center.

When citizens started protesting for the price of PCR testing as expensive, the government had fixed the price at NRs 2,000.  The private labs have taken a stand that they would not be able to conduct PCR testing at such a low price.

The private labs discussed with the Ministry of Health and Population and said that they have proposed their desired rate of PCR testing to the ministry. They also have urged not to spread negativity around the news and therefore informed the media through a press release.
