Prime Ministers of Nepal and Bangladesh Meet at UN Food Systems Summit

Kathmandu, July 25: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina have engaged in talks concerning matters of bilateral interest and concern.

While speaking at the United Nations Food Systems Summit in Rome, Italy, Prime Minister Dahal met his Bangladeshi counterpart on Monday. The two leaders convened at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization head office, where they discussed vital issues pertaining to collaboration in the agriculture and hydropower sectors, as confirmed by PM Dahal’s press coordinator, Surya Kiran Sharma.

Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr. Beduram Bhusal, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and members of the Nepali delegation were also present on the occasion. The event was attended by high-ranking officials from the Bangladesh government.

Media reports suggest that Bangladesh is making preparations to immediately import 40 megawatts of power from Nepal, with plans to import 9,000 megawatts by the year 2040. Additionally, Bangladesh has expressed readiness to invest in key hydropower projects in Nepal.
