Chitwan, Oct 15: Six rhinos have been found dead in Chitwan National Park over the past three months, according to park officials. The deaths have been recorded since July, with one rhino killed by electrocution and two others dying from unspecified causes.
Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, the park’s information officer, reported that 21 rhinos died in the fiscal year 2080/81. Among these, 18 succumbed to natural causes, two were killed by poachers, and one died from an unknown cause.
Nepal is home to 752 one-horned rhinos, with 694 of them residing in Chitwan National Park, according to the latest census data. The recent deaths raise concerns about the conservation challenges the park faces.
