Rishabh Pant Becomes Most Expensive Player in IPL History at Rs 27 Crore
Kathmandu, Nov 24:Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant has set a new record in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after being sold for an unprecedented Rs 27 crore to the Lucknow Super Giants during Sunday’s auction.
This record-breaking deal surpasses the previous highest bid in IPL history, held by Shreyas Iyer.
Pant’s bidding war began with Lucknow and Bangalore. Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the fray after the bid crossed Rs 11.75 crore and raised it to Rs 20.75 crore before stepping back. Delhi Capitals then exercised their Right to Match (RTM) card, but Lucknow secured Pant with their final bid.
Pant, who captained Delhi Capitals in the 2020 IPL, had to step away from the game after suffering a severe car accident. He returned to the team in 2024, reclaiming his captaincy before this historic auction.
