NCP and NC meetings in limbo owing to COVID-19 infections
Kathmandu. News about Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s chief advisor Bishnu Rimal, press advisor Surya Thapa, foreign affairs advisor Dr Rajan Bhattarai and other 76 in the team being infected with coronavirus became public on Saturday.
Nepali Congress leaders Arjun Narsingh KC, Gagan Thapa, Shambhu Lal Shrestha and Kalpana Chaudhary also tested positive for the virus the same day.
The new turns of events created by the coronavirus now has left the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Secretariat meeting and the Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee meeting undetermined as Baluwatar, the NCP rendezvous, has become the hotspot of corona and the central members of NC have been infected.
Prime Minister Oli has canceled all appointments and it is uncertain as to whether the Secretariat meeting will take place or not, owing to the large number of corona cases at Baluwatar. The NCP Secretariat meeting was postponed at the last moment yesterday, to be held on Sunday (today).
The main opposition party Nepali Congress, on the other hand, had called its Central Working Committee meeting to discuss on some important issues along with the topic of its upcoming general assembly. Since four of its central members have been infected, there is possibility of the meeting being deferred.
