Kathmandu, Feb 7: A Bering Air flight carrying 10 people, including the pilot, disappeared near Nome, Alaska, on Thursday afternoon after the pilot was reportedly injured.

The Cessna 208B Grand Caravan took off from Unalakleet, Alaska, at 2:37 PM (local time) and lost radar contact at 3:16 PM, according to flight tracking website FlightRadar. Authorities, including the Alaska Department of Public Safety, have launched a search operation with assistance from residents of nearby Phnom Penh and White Mountain. However, poor weather conditions have temporarily halted aerial searches.

Alaska’s mountainous terrain and harsh weather make small aircraft accidents more frequent compared to other US states. Many villages in the region lack road connections, making air travel a crucial mode of transportation. Bering Air, a regional airline in Alaska, operates about 39 aircraft and helicopters.
