Kathmandu. China has remarked that India’s ambitious ‘Atal Tunnel’ project is of less value during war times for India as China can easily make the tunnel ‘unserviceable’. With this message, China seems to make India aware of the risk the megaproject bears.

Global times, the newspaper operated by the Chinese Communist Party, stated that the tunnel serves military purpose and has strategic significance for India, but only at the time of peace. “The tunnel will require immense resources,” Global Times writes. “It will be of great help to Indian troops with their transportation and provision of supplies in peacetime; but, the PLA is technically advanced and knows how to render it useless.”

The Global Times has suggested that ’It is better for China and India to coexist peacefully with each other” as “India is far from reaching China’s level” in combat capability.

The newspaper also mentions that the Atal Tunnel is nothing but India’s political propaganda and adds that resource which could be used for real infrastructure development is being spent for “show and political purposes.”
