Hollywood Film ‘Tasi’ Begins Shooting in Mustang, Boosting Local Tourism and Economy

Mustang, May 18:  The filming of the Hollywood movie ‘Tasi’, based on the life of legendary Everest climber Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, has begun in various parts of Mustang from Monday.

Produced by Apple, the film depicts Sherpa’s historic 1953 Everest expedition. A massive international crew, including technicians from Hollywood, Bollywood, and Nepal, has arrived for the shoot.

According to Palgen Gurung, the local facilitator, over 80 vehicles, 50 trucks of equipment, and around 300 crew members have entered Mustang. The unit has pre-booked over two dozen hotels in Jomsom and Puthang for a month.

Key filming locations include:

  • Kuchpa Teranga Gumba and Lakki in Gharpajhong Rural Municipality
  • Boksi Khola, Purang, Jharkot, Dharkajung, Phalak Playground, and Lupra Pass in Baragung Muktikshetra

The film will showcase Everest Sherpa climbs, Himalayan civilization, and biodiversity. The production company Wednes Outdoor has already paid location fees to the local authorities.

Local tourism entrepreneur Rakesh Bhattachan noted that hotels are fully booked as filming stretches across three municipalities. He added that Mustang’s improved road access has attracted major productions from Hollywood, Bollywood, and Kollywood.

Previously, Bollywood’s ‘Khuda Gawah’ was shot in Mustang before road access was developed. Now, ‘Tasi’ stands as one of the biggest Hollywood productions filmed in Nepal, expected to boost local tourism and economy, and promote religious and mountain tourism.

In the past decade, Mustang has become a sought-after location for films, music videos, and documentaries, establishing itself as a growing filming hub in Nepal.
