Kathmandu, Dec 17: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said there is no alternative to holding elections on March 7 to bring the constitution back on track.

Speaking to reporters in Biratnagar on Wednesday, Koirala said the constitution has gone off course since the formation of the current government. He stated that although there was an initial intention to hold elections on time, the government failed to create a conducive environment for the polls.

Koirala warned that if elections are not held as scheduled, the possibility of restoring parliament would become strong. He urged the public to remain confident, adding that he would be a presidential candidate in the upcoming general convention.

On another occasion, Koirala said that under the Nepali Congress constitution, Sher Bahadur Deuba cannot be the party’s presidential candidate again. He stressed that the party’s general convention must be held on time.
