Mayor Dangol Calls for Expansion of Home-Based Services for Senior Citizens
Kathmandu, Feb 13: Mayor Sunita Dangol of Kathmandu Metropolitan City has emphasized the need to effectively expand service delivery targeting senior citizens, particularly through home-based support systems.
Speaking at the 47th meeting of the municipal executive held on Friday, Mayor Dangol said that alongside the distribution of old-age allowance, the metropolis can systematically advance the provision of basic health services to senior citizens at their homes.
“Talking about old-age allowance, we have now started providing basic health services at home to parents aged 70 and above. This initiative can be implemented in a more systematic and effective manner,” she said.
Mayor Dangol informed that several wards of the metropolis have already begun offering home-based services, especially for senior citizens who are unable to visit ward offices. She noted that 17 wards have already implemented such practices.
Urging the remaining wards to follow suit, Dangol encouraged them to discuss and coordinate with municipal teams and relevant stakeholders to expand these services. She reiterated that the metropolis is implementing the program with the objective of ensuring easy, respectful, and accessible services for senior citizens.
The initiative is seen as part of Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s broader effort to improve social services and enhance the quality of life for elderly residents.
