20-year-old man arrested for beating woman over “witchcraft”
Lahan. Nepal Police in Siraha has arrested a 20 year old fugitive, Santosh Yadav for reportedly beating up a woman on charges of “witchcraft.”
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shaligram Poudel, spokesman for the Siraha District Police Office, announced that Yadav was arrested while he was hiding near the Nepal-India border in Thadi, Siraha. On the night of September 12, at around 11 p.m., Murtidevi Yadav of Nawarajpur Village municipality-5 was called from her house and beaten by a mob of eight people on the charge of witchcraft.
The victim’s husband, Ram Narayan Yadav lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against the eight individuals, including locals Krishna Yadav, Dharmanath Yadav, and Santosh Yadav. The police have filed a case and are searching for those involved in the incident.
