Kathmandu. Nepal Rastra Bank has decided to not exchange new notes for Dashain this year. The coronavirus disease has been increasingly spreading in Nepal. The decision comes after the discussion that distribution might increase the chances of crowding and more people could get infected.

Previously, Nepal Rastra Bank used to exchange old notes for new notes of NRs. 5,10,20,50 and 100 each year before Dashain. But this year, keeping the sensitivity of the situation in mind, the Currency Administration Department of Nepal Rastra Bank has announced that they will not be exchanging new notes for this festive season.

Each year, during the festive season, the exchange amount of the notes totaled to NRs. 400 million. The bank’s spokesperson said that even though the notes will not be exchanged, there wouldn’t be any scarcity of notes in the market.
