Landslide in Vietnam kills 11 soldiers

Hanoi. A massive landslide on Sunday has killed 11 soldiers buried 22 others in Vietnam. The landslide occurred after weeks of massive downpour in the Quang Tri province. Search for those who are buried are still going on, according to the local media.

According to Vietnam’s Disaster Management Authority (VDMA), 64 people have been killed in floods and landslides in the region. The water levels in the Quang Tri province is highest in two decades. The authority has sent a risk alert warning on Sunday, indicating that the situations could worsen if water levels continue to increase with the rain.

Local official Ha Ngoc Duong said, “From 2 a.m., there have been four to five landslides, exploding like bombs and it feels like the whole mountain is about to collapse.” Cambodia also has been facing similar situations where 20 people have lost their lives.
