Why are we not seeing foreign TV advertisements?
Kathmandu. Since Friday midnight, the government has implemented the clean feed policy in the Television Broadcasting system due to which Nepali dubbed foreign advertisements are now banned all over Nepal.
Clean feed policy is mostly practiced in the developed countries which allows the cable operators for realtime replacement of International advertisements with the local advertisements hence, promoting local products and businesses.
The Chairman of the Federation of Nepal Cable Television Entrepreneurs, Dhurba Sharma said that the foreign channels are ready to cast clean feed contents, but, it takes time for them to install the necessary equipment. So, they have requested the government to extend the deadline. But, 150 channels, that included mostly Indian channels, have been suspended by the government.
Earlier on Thursday, the Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Parbat Gurung, in a press release, announced that the government had been working since 2016 for this “historic decision”. He urged Nepali viewers to support the “Advertisement Regulation Act” as their money will not be spent on foreign advertisements. He also added that the distributors had already got one year in preparation.
The agencies for advertisements in Nepal welcomed the government’s decision saying that it will be a boon for the development of the advertisement sector.
