Nepal attends 206th session of the Governing Council of IPU
Kathmandu. The 206th session of the Governing Council of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the common platform for the parliamentarians of the world, has commenced from November 1. The four-day long virtual session will take decisions on important issues relating to the functioning of the organization.
Representing the Federal Parliament of Nepal, Speaker of House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota, member of the House of Representative Ram Kumari Jhakri and member of the National Assembly Jitendra Narayan Dev are attending the convention as members, whereas member of the House of Representative Iqbal Miya is taking part as an observer.
The convention shall elect the new IPU President. Each Governing Council member is eligible for a vote. The election has been carried virtually, and all members from Nepal have used their voting rights. Members of 162 countries, including Nepal, have shown their presence in the current session.
Representatives from Pakistan, Portugal, Uzbekistan and Canada have filed candidacy for the presidential post of the IPU this time.
