Kathmandu. Non-Resident Nepali Association Qatar will hold an awareness program on the recent increase in the minimum wage for workers and the new rules for changing companies. President Mohammad Muktada Musalaman informed DC Nepal that the Association has arranged for an awareness program through virtual media to inform the Nepali workers in Qatar about the new standards. He mentioned that an awareness program has been scheduled to be organized online on Zoom from 1 p.m. on Friday under the coordination of NCC Qatar.
Recently, Qatar announced an increase in the minimum wage for workers. The Qatari government’s Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs passed a new law changing the minimum national wage for workers and companies. With the new decision, the minimum wage has been increased to 1,000 riyals. Similarly, an additional 300 riyals per month has to be paid for food, as well as 500 riyals for accommodation. Workers are now liable to get a minimum of 1,800 riyals including food and accommodation.
Provision has also been made for migrant workers to change employers without permission in case they do not like the employer. There are around 4 lakh Nepalese working in Qatar. NRNA Qatar has stated that the program organized to inform about the new rules will be very important for Nepali workers. The Association has invited the representatives of Nepali organizations established in Qatar and all Nepalese living there to participate in the program.
