‘Industrialists delaying sugarcane farmers’ payments will be arrested’: Minister Bhatta

Kathmandu. Addressing the agitating sugarcane farmers’ demand, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Lekhraj Bhatta has said that the sugar mill owners who deny the payment of dues to the farmers would be arrested.
Tthe sugarcane farmers’ struggle committee from Sarlahi had submitted a memo to Minister Bhatta on Sunday at his office in Singhadurbar.
As per National News Agency (RSS), Miinister Bhatta assured the farmers to resolve all the problems of the sugarcane farmers and said that the Ministry of Home Affairs would be written to arrest those sugar mill owners who delay the payment to the sugarcane farmers. In the case of closed mills, the government will arrange for the payment by selling their land and property, Minister Bhatta said.
The farmers had stated in their memo that if their deferred payments were not cleared before the Chhath festival, they would gather at the Maitighar Mandala in thousands and stage their protest.
