World Bank to assist in 3,300 kms road repair
Kathmandu. The World Bank is providing Nepal government financial assistance for the repair and maintenance of roads. The Department of Roads is about to conduct periodic maintenance on 3,300 km of the main roads and different highway sections across the nation utilizing the resource.
According to the department, an agreement has been signed to complete the repair and maintenance works within next five years. Deputy Director General of the Department, Bhimarjun Adhikari said that the roads with high vehicular movement would be repaired and that roads needing partial repair would be chosen instead of roads needing a complete reconstruction.
Generally, the roads need to be repaired after five-six years of their construction; some roads have not been repaired for more than that time. Muglin-Nagdhunga and Kamala-Dhalkebar segments among others are being repaired under the current program.
The Road Board Nepal is using a different procedure than its routine annual repair work. This, time an extra layer is being added to the roads.
The Division Road Offices will coordinate for the operation of the program at the local levels. The total cost is estimated to come around Rs 8 billion for the repairs.
