Kathmandu. President Bidya Devi Bhandari has issued a new ordinance after the absence of the speaker of the House of Representatives led to the postponement of the meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC). The ordinance issued today by the president on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers allows the CC meeting to be conducted in the absence of the speaker of the House too.

Spokesperson to the Office of the President Badrinath Adhikari has informed through a statement that President Bhandari has issued an ordinance related to the Constitutional Council (functions, duty, rights and responsibilities, and working procedures)

President’s private secretary Dr Bhesh Raj Adhikari notes that as per the provision in the new ordinance, if the majority of the CC members are present then the absence of the speaker of the House of Representatives would not hamper the running of the meeting.

The CC is chaired by the prime minister. Leader of the main opposition party, chief justice, speaker of the House of Representatives and Chair of the National Assembly are members of the CC.
