Joe Biden’s victory confirmed by Electoral College
Kathmandu. United States President-Elect Joe Biden’s victory is confirmed by the members of the Electoral College. With 306 electoral college votes to Republican Donald Trump’s 232, the Democrats have a clear win. Under the US structure, voters cast their ballots for ‘electors’, who in turn weeks after the election, officially vote for the candidates.
According to an article in BBC, the electors do not get much attention, but this year due to President Trump’s objection upon the election process and results, including legal cases regarding election frauds, the electors caught the limelight. California was the last state to vote on Monday, which crossed the 270 mark for Biden to win the elections. States like Michigan and Georgia are also under tight security due to potential threats of violence.
The results will be sent to Washington DC on January 6, where vice president Mike Pence and a joint session of the Congress will formally count the votes. Joe Biden is expected to be sworn in on January 20.
President Trump has used all the tricks up his sleeve, denying the results by putting up accusations and legal cases for election frauds. It is high time now to accept the reality that he lost the elections.
