Belgium enforces travel restrictions following new coronavirus strain discovery

Kathmandu, December 20. Belgium has enforced air travel restrictions from the United Kingdom after a new strain of the coronavirus has been found. Netherland enforced the restrictions first, after which Belgium soon followed after.
According to an article in Sky News, the Dutch ministry identified the case in the beginning of December and it is being investigated. The article also says that the World Health Organization (WHO) is working closely to study the new strain of coronavirus. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo announced travel bans starting from Sunday midnight, adding that he is yet to get more clarity on the issue.
The new strain of coronavirus, known as VUI-202012/01 is said to spread faster than the original strain. Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK government’s chief scientific adviser has said that the new strain was evolved in UK in mid-September. Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Boris Johnson has announced that people of London and South East will not be able to mix up this Christmas, as UK is gearing up for stricter lockdown measures.
