As France witnesses an influx of new cases, the state has decided to adopt more stringent policies in an effort to avoid a nationwide lockdown. Tensions heightened as within a period of 24 hours, more than 10,000 cases were registered on Saturday. Following an announcement on Monday, specific restrictions have been applied in Marseille and Bordeaux.

A recorded spike in the cases of Covid-19 positives in the past few days, specifically in these two areas put a considerable strain on the health services. As a result, the Government has decided to curb public gatherings in both locations, establishing specific guidelines for its citizens.

A limit for gatherings of 10 or less people in public parks has been put in place. Furthermore, restrictions have been introduced for participation in recreational activities, beaches have been banned for the public and neighborhood meetings have been barred. Both Bordeaux and Marseille have likewise lowered admissibility of attendees from 5,000 to 1,000 in concert halls and theaters where large assemblies can be held.
