Preliminary survey of the Nepal-China railway line complete
Kathmandu. Preliminary survey of the Nepal-China trans-Himlayan railway line has been complete. The Chinese state-affiliated media has informed regarding the completion of survey in a tweet.
The tweet mentions Chinese technicians as having provided information regarding the survey, without explaining further.
The railway is a part of China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The train will enter Nepal from Tibet at Rasuwa.
Experts opine that is is an extremely hard project, but not impossible. The survey was carried on the Chinese side. Similar survey on Nepal side is yet to be done.
Currently, trains from mainland China reach Xigatse in Tibet in about 10 days, and the containers are transferred to trucks that reach the Nepali boarder at Rasuwa in 2 days. There, goods are transferred to smaller lorries to be transported to their destinations.
