Kathmandu. The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) that has been active in providing a daily update on the COVID-19 situation within the country has decided to stop airing the continuous flow of information. The spokesperson of the Ministry, Dr. Jageshwor Gautam has notified that the daily information on the pandemic will be discontinued from Thursday onwards.

The press briefings that used to air every day around 4:00 p.m., will now be halted. Instead the briefing will only be held twice as week, on Sundays and Wednesdays as per Dr. Gautam. The daily updates will be made available on social media platforms and on Viber.

The government has lately been heavily criticized for the policies it has adopted in managing the COVID-19 crisis, mainly for its decision to provide free treatment to a select target group. The press briefings held by MoHP also found itself caught in the range of fire when it had to cut its airing time short, as it was argued that the government was simply looking at the daily death tolls caused by the pandemic.
