Kathmandu. Nepal government has made a decision to purchase chemical fertilizer from Bangladesh. The meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday has decided to make the procurement of 50 thousand metric tons of fertilizer through government-to-government (G2G) procurement process.

The government has decided earlier to borrow chemical fertilizers from Bangladesh during the paddy season. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had talked with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina Wajed and Bangladesh had consented to the proposal. But, the fertilizer has not arrived Nepal yet. The government has decided to purchase chemical fertilizer noticing the reluctance on the Bangladeshi side to lend.

The rice production this year has been projected to be lesser than last year since the farmers could not get adequate fertilizers. The government has decided to initiate the G2G process for the procurement of fertilizers so that the wheat planting season doesn’t meet the same fate.
