Kathmandu. Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) has decided to ban the sale of the LED bulbs that do not meet the newly issued standards.

The 105th meeting of Nepal Council for Standards was held on Wednesday. Considering the increasing sales of substandard LED bulbs, the chair of the meeting, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Lekhraj Bhatta issued a set of standards for LED bulbs.

According to the Director-General of NBSM, Bishwo Babu Pudasaini, the following criteria are the major determinants of the standards:

  • Electricity consumption

  • Age of the bulb (minimum 15,000 hours)

  • Sensitivity to human eyes

“We will stop the sale of bulbs that do not meet the criteria within six months,” said Pudasaini.
