Nine dead, 24 injured in Baitadi bus accident
Baitadi. A bus (Na 5 Kha 5141) bound for Mahendranagar from Ganna of Darchula, belonging to the Pawandoot Transport Sevice, met with an accident at 10.30 pm on Thursday, leading to the death of at least nine passengers. The accident took place at Patan Municipality-8, Khodpe of Baitadi along the Dasharath Chand Highway.
According to DSP Narayan Prasad Adhikari, chief of District Police Office, Baitadi, the bus fell down some 600 meters swerving at a narrow corner. The dead, seven men and two women, have not been identified yet. “Out of the 34 injured, seven passengers are critically injured and referred to Dhangadhi for treatment. Remaining 27 are being treated in Dadeldhura Hospital,” DSP Adhikari informed.
Police and locals had rescued the injured from the accident site immediately after the accident. The reason behind the accident has yet to be ascertained. The driver of the bus, Birendra Karki of Dogadakedar-7, Khochaleka of Baitadi is also the owner of the bus. He, too, has sustained injuries in the accident.
The dead bodies are being sent to the district hospital for post-mortem, police said.
