Kathmandu. After being accused of passing public remarks on race and gender, the 63-year old Chairman of England’s Football Association(FA) Greg Clarke resigned from his post out of guilt on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Clarke also stepped down in the middle of his tenure from the post of Vice-President of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) over a phone call with Union of European Football associations(UEFA) President Aleksander Čeferin.

While answering questions at a forum of the United Kingdom’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) parliament committee on Tuesday, Clarke referred to black football as “coloured,” which is outdated and offensive in today’s world.

Clark also opined that the Afro Caribbean and South Asian people have a different career interest than playing a game. Also, becoming a gay is a life decision and women do not like the ball being kicked at them.

Chairman of Kick it Out, anti-racism soccer organization, Sanjay Bhandari immediately responded that he was disappointed with Clarke’s remarks. “Clarke’s remarks is completely unacceptable and should remain consigned to the dustbin of history,” said Clarke

Later that day, Clarke apologized and said “I am deeply saddened that I have offended those diverse communities in football that I and others worked so hard to include. My unacceptable words in front of Parliament were a disservice to our game and to those who watch, play, referee and administer it. This has crystallized my resolve to move on.”
