Kathmandu. The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has refused to cede to Joe Biden after more than a week of the 2020 US Presidential Elections being announced. He has continued to stress that he can still emerge victorious, particularly asserting on the legal lawsuits that his campaign has been filing throughout various battleground states for a recount of the votes.

On Thursday, the Washington Examiner published a telephone conversation with the President, where Trump sounded confident on his win in both Georgia and Wisconsin, after the ballots are counted again.

On the issue of Pennsylvania and Michigan, Trump claimed, “They wouldn’t let our poll watchers and observers watch or observe,” Trump said. “That’s a big thing. They should throw those votes out that went through during those periods of time when [Trump observers] weren’t there. We went to court, and the judge ordered [the observers] back, but that was after two days, and millions of votes could have gone through. Millions. And we’re down 50,000.”

Trump is grasping at straws for any possibilities of the votes being swayed in his favor. Arizona and Nevada were both called for Biden mere days after Election Day, that falls on November 3. Joe Biden also has a considerable lead in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Georgia, with most of the ballots having already been counted.

Amongst the swing states, only Georgia is yet to declare its final results, after Trump secured North Carolina, according to AP News.

On the matter of voter fraud and recounting ballots Trump tweeted, “For years the Dems have been preaching how unsafe and rigged our elections have been. Now they are saying what a wonderful job the Trump Administration did in making 2020 the most secure election ever. Actually this is true, except for what the Democrats did. Rigged Election!” His tweet has been marked as a disputed claim on the social media platform.

When Trump spoke in the Rose Garden after a week of silence on the subject, he ominously remarked that “time will tell” on who clinches the final victory and leads the White House for the next four years.

Karl Rove, the campaign manager for former President George W. Bush, who won the 2000 Presidential Election against the Democratic Al Gore after contesting the outcome, has stated that Trump’s activities may not be enough for him to contest the results. He further added, “To win, Mr. Trump must prove systemic fraud, with illegal votes in the tens of thousands. There is no evidence of that so far.”

So far, it seems that Joe Biden has a clear pathway ahead of him to assume responsibilities in the White House, after he is sworn in on 20th January 2021. However, Donald Trump and his supporters will not make the period of transition easy.

Beyond that, are considerations that if the GOP takes the Senate back, the President-Elect’s term in the office may be full of tough decisions, with Biden having to rely more executive orders than he would want to. Trump has gathered more than 72 million votes and it is indicative that a significant portion of the population still believe in Trump’s conservative ideals.

A divided nation awaits Joe Biden, and it will fall upon him to bridge the differences, so that the US can effectively and as a unitedly combat the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and more.
