Football legend Diego Maradona dies of heart attack

Kathmandu. 60-year-old Argentine football legend Diego Maradona passed away on Wednesday, two weeks after being released from a hospital in Buenos Aires following brain surgery.

Maradona’s spokesman, Sebastián Sanchi announced that Maradona died after contracting a heart attack while being treated by doctors at his home near Buenos Aires.

He was struggling with obesity and excessive use of alcohol and drugs like cocaine, due to which he was hospitalized in 2000 with heart problems and in early 2007 for acute hepatitis.

While Argentina won the 1986 World Cup Title, its best player Maradona had scored the most memorable ‘Hand of God’ goal in world cup history and had achieved the Golden Ball.

He made his professional debut at the age of 15, for the Argentinos Junior in October 1976. His last appearance was in the World Cup 2010, as a coach for the Argentine national team.

The football world is in mourning following the tragic news that Diego Maradona, one of the sport’s legendary players, is no more.

“What sad news,” Pele tweeted, remembering the Argentine legend. “I lost a great friend and the world lost a legend. There is still much to be said, but for now, may God give strength to family members. One day, I hope we can play ball together in the sky”.

Messi and Ronaldo posted photographs of themselves with Maradona.

Messi, has delivered his own tribute to the football icon. “A very sad day for all Argentines and for football. He leaves us but does not leave, because Diego is eternal,” Messi wrote on instagram. “I keep all the beautiful moments lived with him and I wanted to take the opportunity to send my condolences to all his family and friends.”
