Kathmandu. All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has decided to provide equal pay to both male and female players. The executive committee has decided to pay NRs. 18,000 to twenty members of both the male and female teams of the association. Previously, female players were given NRs. 7000 per month and male players were given NRs. 15,000 per month.

According to the executive committee, the decision will be implemented from January next year. Ramesh Kumar Silwal, member secretary of National Sports Council said, “Our constitution guarantees equality between men and women, so we have to end all such disparities.” He thanked ANFA for taking such a decision.

ANFA President Karma Tsering Sherpa said, “We had a plan to keep women’s football in priority before the elections and we were not able to do so due to budget crunch after we had the authority. The women’s football is on the rise and we cannot keep on having such disparities.”

ANFA is the first national sports institution to have rolled out such a pathbreaking decision. The decision of equal pay is widely welcomed by the sports fraternity of Nepal.
