Kathmandu, June 12. After studying the safety monitoring records of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) on Friday said that the second dose of mRNA vaccines caused heart inflammation in an unacceptable number of young men.

Earlier in April, the Israeli Health Ministry published a report on the side effects of the Pfizer vaccine, which uses mRNA technology. The report raised concerns that the rising cases of myocarditis in men under 30, could have possible links to the second shot of the vaccines.

Responding to the concerns, CDC and health regulators are carefully studying the side effects monitoring system of Pfizer and Moderna, both of which use mRNA technology. CDC has not reached a conclusion.

However, based on the study conducted so far, the agency said that 283 people aged between 16 and 24, who received the second dose, were diagnosed with heart inflammation. About 80% of the cases were in men. The majority of the cases appeared within a week after getting the second jab. Only some of the patients required hospitalization.

So far, 130 million people in the United States have received the second dose of either of the vaccines.
