Kathmandu, July 23. The Pentagon confirmed on Thursday that the United States Armed Forces had carried out numerous airstrikes in Afghanistan in recent days, targeting Taliban hideouts.

Despite the Pentagon’s refusal to give specifics about the strikes, it stated that they were carried out to assist Afghan National Defense and Security Forces(ANDSF). “We have acted, through airstrikes, to support the ANDSF,” the Pentagon explained.

The Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley said that nearly half of Afghanistan’s 419 district centers are under Taliban control. One of the airstrikes took place in Kandahar, Afghanistan’s southern region.

In April, US President Joe Biden issued an order to all U.S. forces to end their mission in Afghanistan before September 11. Earlier this month, the white House re-ordered all soldiers in Afghanistan to leave Afghanistan before August 31.

Last week, U.S. Central Command reported that 95 percent of the disengagement had been accomplished.

The ongoing war in Afghanistan, which began on October 7, 2001, is the US military’s longest war. In Afghanistan, 2,400 US military troops have died in the last two decades. 66,000 Afghan soldiers have been killed, and 2.7 million civilians have been forced to flee their homes.
