US President Biden’s Asia visit to focus on Indo-Pacific
Kathmandu, May 19. US President Joe Biden will travel to Asia to solidify vital security alliances with South Korea and Japan. He will also attend the second in-person Quad Summit to reaffirm commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan said, “President Biden has rallied the free world in defense of Ukraine and in opposition to Russian aggression. He remains focused on ensuring that our efforts in those missions are successful. But he also intends to seize this moment — this pivotal moment — to assert bold and confident American leadership in another vital region of the world: the Indo-Pacific.”
Further, Biden will meet with the newly elected Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol in South Korea to discuss bilateral relations and matters of technology. They will also address the threats from North Korea.
In Japan, Biden will meet Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his team. The two leaders will be discussing regional and global issues along with economic relations.
Moreover, in Tokyo, the US President is set to launch the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). It is a new model developed to tackle new economic challenges.
