Kathmandu, April 4. Nepali Army Chief of Army Staff(CoAS) General Prabhuram Sharma, on Monday afternoon, said that a well-organized army is the foundation of the national security of the country.

While addressing the ex-army conference at Nepali Army’s Mid-East Regional Headquarters in Bardibas, CoAS Sharma said that the main responsibility of the Army is to protect the independence, sovereignty, and national unity of the country.

“If the army is strong the national security and interests of the country will be protected,” Sharma added.

Earlier in March, while speaking at the ex-army convention in Pokhara, CoAS Sharma had said that It was not the job of self-proclaimed experts working in independent non-governmental organizations to determine the size of the army required for the nation. “It is the role of the government to determine the required size and strengths of the country’s army,” he said.

Earlier in February, while speaking at the ex-army convention in Butwal, CoAS Sharma had urged the people to be alert and aware of misleading comments that downplay the Nepali Army’s role, functions, and contributions to the nation. Sharma also encouraged retired military personnel to make full use of military knowledge, skills, and arts to help society move forward. “The nation looks for the contribution of the army personnel even after retirement.”

Around 2,000 retired personnel of the Nepali Army, residing in eight districts of the Midwestern region (Mahottari, Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Sirha, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, and Saptari), gathered in Bardibas for yesterday’s ex-army event.

The Army Welfare Board organizes these conferences for ex-army personnel in different regions across the country. Currently, the NA has over 81,000 pensioners, and more than 15,800 receive family pensions.
