Nepali Army’s clean-up campaign reaches Annapurna I summit

Kathmandu, April 18. The Nepali Army announced on Monday that a team of soldiers has successfully scaled Annapurna I as part of the ongoing mountain cleanup campaign.
According to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information, Captain Suman Pandey led the team, which included Lance Corporal Man Singh Chaudhary, army men Nabaraj Rana and Gyanendra Dangi, and five Sherpa guides led by Tshering Jangbu Sherpa.
The team led by Captain Pandey reached scaled the world’s tenth highest peak at 8:55 am on Monday.
The Annapurna I climb was part of the Nepali Army’s annual cleaning campaign, which aims to conserve biodiversity and ecology. This year’s campaign focuses on collecting at least 35 tonnes of garbage from Mount Everest, Lhotse, Annapurna, and Baruntse.
Media reports suggest that a 13-member team led by Lieutenant Colonel Kishor Adhikari, which set out to tidy up Mount Everest and Lhotse, has reached the Second Base Camp. At the same time, a team that has set out to clean up Baruntse is reaching the Base Camp.
